Kicking off Summer at the Cape

6/21/2013

According to the calendar summer is officially here. Whatever that means. It has definitely started to feel like summer here in the New York but there have been summers where the temperatures barely reached above 70.

A few weeks back I went to the cape for a weekend with the girls. While most of us were ready to pull out our colorful maxis and sun hats the weather was not exactly summery so we opted for layers instead. As a rule I tend to keep a pieces such as jeans and light jackets on standby through out the entire summer just in case. What kind of off season pieces do you tend to keep at the front of your closet during the summer months?

365 Challenge: 24.0 Countdown

I am officially counting down the day until I leave the country (6 to be exact). This weekend was a pretty busy and productive weekend.  I drank a little bit of Sangria, spent a day at the beach, went shopping and even managed to pack (with DH's help of course). This upcoming weekend is going to be just as jam packed. Hopefully that means I will sleep on my flight.
Picture
I was supposed to run the Corporate Challenge on Thursday night but unfortunately mother nature had other plans so the race was cancelled. Of course I had to drown my sorrows in popeyes. That is what I do when I can't run a 5K. I just eat the most unhealthiest albeit yummiest thing I can find.
Picture
Check it out. Its an OOTD/OOTN post. Remember those. I took my Pierre Hardy nude heels out for a spin for the first time this weekend. They are actually quite comfy.
Picture
Can you believe this is only a 5 minute drive from my house. I do not know how I would survive I lived in a landlocked region of the country. I would lose my mind.
Picture
Friday night we went out to celebrate DH's BFF's birthday. We went to a place in The Bronx and I actually enjoyed it (shocking for this city girl). I think the sangria helped a bit.

Picture
I spent all day Saturday at the beach. The weather was amazing and I managed to even get a little sun burn (not sure how that happened). Summer is finally here.

Soho Shopping Haul

6/13/2013

A few weeks ago on a Sunday morning  I got up early and headed down to SoHo for a little bit of shopping. I am always looking for a deal as you all know and I found some really great pieces (most of which will be coming with me my travels later this month).  I managed to get 9 pieces for well under $100. You will be surprised at my grand total.

Here is what I picked up:
First stop was Necessary Clothing. I picked up two dresses and a top that set me back a whole 26.97. The store that is located on Broadway between Howard  and Grand has a great clearance section downstairs. I always hit those racks first when I go there and have managed to score lots of great stuff. The retail price for all my goodies would have been 91.97. I ended up saving  71%.
Picture
Retail Price: 34.99 Sale Price: 9.99.
Picture
Retail Price 19.99. Sale Price 6.99.

Retail Price: 36.99. Sale price 9.99.
After Necessary Clothing we went to  a bunch of other stores but I managed to pick up some stuff at Old Navy. Once again I shopped the sales. I picked up three bikini pieces and a pair of neon shorts. Grand total was 18.47. Retail these pieces would have all came in at 79.93, a  77% savings.  Here is a poor in a private plane hint. I ALWAYS mix and match my bikinis. I rarely wear matching pieces. This helps me save tons of money because when bathing suits go on clearance its hard to find matching pieces.  I just buy what I like and is in my size and worry about putting it together later. I have managed to collect tons of pieces and rarely pay more than $10 for each piece.
Our final stop was a leather store on Orchard Street in the Lower East Side where I find two genuine leather skirts for $10 bucks each. Retail Price is 79.99 for each so that is a 87% savings. Now I am not planning on wearing these skirts anytime soon but they will be great for the fall. I am already thinking of how I am going to style them.
So here are the numbers:
I got a total of 9 pieces.
I spent 65.42.
If bought at retail I would have spent 331.88.
I saved 266.46 (80% savings).
Enough for another few shopping hauls if you ask me.

365 Challenge 23.0 Atlantic City

Can we briefly talk about how I am off to Europe in about two weeks and I am starting to get anxious. I am excited about the trip but I am anxious about the packing. I promise I will work  on it this week.

This past weekend I took a little road trip with my parents to Atlantic City. The weather was icky on Friday but Saturday and Sunday were amazing and I made the best of it. I also did a little shopping  for my trip that I will posting about later.
Picture
I celebrated my rainy day Friday with a glass of wine and some magazines by the pool. My idea of a great Friday.

Picture
This is what happened when I finally caved. Who are these people.

Picture
The sun finally came out on Saturday so we took a walk on the boardwalk and checked out the beach. People were actually swimming in that frigid water.
Picture
We did dinner at Izakaya at the Borgata on Saturday night. If you have not been there you should check it out. I love that place.
Picture
After the pool I met up with my parents for drinks at which point they peer pressured me into ordering another glass of wine.
Picture
Friday night I got all dressed up to go to dinner and was in bed by 10. I was exhausted. These past few weeks have been non stop.  I need a break.
Picture
Had to take a break after shopping with some beer and burgers on the beach.

Picture
Rubi was waiting for us by the window. He gave us the "Where have you been?" look. Good thing we will not be traveling again for a few weeks.

Vegas Maybe?

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Southwest Airlines Vacations. All opinions are 100% mine.

As you all know I love to travel. I have a very looong list of places to go and have slowly but surely been ticking away at my list. This year I will be traveling to Europe (Italy, Greece and Turkey to be exact) and hopefully Bermuda.

I usually go to Mexico for my birthday in December however with all this International travel planned I have yet to plan something for my birthday and I've been thinking it might be time to consider something a bit closer  to home (and cheaper). Insert "Vegas Trip" here. Most of the time when people thing Vegas they think weddings or Bachelor Parties. I think it would be just as great to go with DH for a little relaxation by the pool and lots of eating and shopping. I hear they have great shopping.

Since I am always looking for a great deal I was happy to hear that Southwest Vacations now has some great packages for trips to Vegas. They even have flights out of either Newark or LaGuardia (for all my NYC peeps) which gives me more options to find the best price. I am poor in a private plane. I am always looking for a good deal. I did a quick search to see what the prices looked like and it is definitely affordable for a long weekend. I was surprised to see how cheap it would be to fly out for a few days. I was also happy to see that they have a good variety of hotels to choose from. I may be poor in a private plane but I have my standards when it comes to accomodations. Here are some examples of the savings.

Save up to $100 + 25% on the Hotel Stay! (The Quad Resort & Casino - Center Strip)

Save up to $100 + $20 in Food and Beverage Credit! (Excalibur Hotel & Casino)

Save up to $100 + 25% on the Hotel Stay! (Rio All Suite Hotel)

Save up to $100 + 25% on the Hotel Stay! (Bally's Las Vegas)

I know it is a bit early to start planning but Vegas is definitely a contender for my birthday celebrations this year. Now I am off to check out Las Vegas Vacations over at Southwest Vacations to see if I can score a great deal to Vegas.

Last week didn't really start until Friday for me.  Once Friday hit it was pretty much non-stop. Friday night we did hibachi followed by the Ride to Montauk on Saturday and shopping on Sunday. I have no idea how I survived work on Monday but as soon as I got home from work I made dinner and fell right to sleep. Now that I have recovered here is how my weekend went.

On Saturday DH and I did the Ride to Montauk. Although I had a great time the ride itself nearly almost killed me. I definitely need to train more for the next one.
Picture
My morning started at 5:45am. Most people would cringe at the idea of getting up so early on a Saturday morning but I was waaaayy to excited so I didn't care.
Picture
Once we made it to Montauk (and after my near death experience) we showered and stuffed our face with burgers and beer. Nothing makes me happier.
Picture
One of the best perks of this ride was the food. They had fresh baked pie at one of the rest stops. It was amazing. I think I ate a little bit too much.
Picture
Somebody went a bit crazy with the free beer. I think he was a bit overwhelmed at one point.
We spent the weekend in the city so on Sunday while DH went out to do the Brooklyn Bike Tour I opted for some shopping in SoHo with Mom followed by brunch.
Picture
First stop was Necessary Clothing. I love this place. I especially love their clearance rack down on the lower level. Stay tuned later this week to find out how many pieces I picked up on Sunday for under $100.
Picture
After shopping we went to brunch to one of my parents' fave spots. My mom threatened me not to share the place or location but if you follow me on Instagram or squint really hard at this picture you can figure it out. HINT: It's in my hood and it is amazing.
Picture
After the bike tour DH joined us for brunch and tried his first Michelada. It was really good. He didn't care for it much.
